High Tove and Armboth Fell

Starting point: Watendlath NT car park  (NY 276163)  Distance: 4.09 miles  Ascent: 1159'  Date: Tuesday 18th May 2010

Usually, a notoriously wet walk; on this occasion I was blessed with relatively dry conditions.

Route: Starting at Watendlath, a lovely path zig-zags up the fell towards High Tove.  As the gradient slackens after the initial ascent, the ground becomes more boggy.  From High Tove, turn south along the ridge to Shivery Knott.  Cross the wide depression and ascend to the heather-clad slopes of Armboth Fell.  A rocky tor marks the summit of this fell.  On the return to High Tove, do not make a beeline, but, instead, work your way northwards through boggy ground to reach the main path from Watendlath to Thirlmere.  Turn west and ascend to the summit of High Tove and thence by retracing steps, return to the starting point.
