Starting point: Patterdale Church
(NY 393162) Distance: 3.4 miles Ascent: 1294'
An evening stroll from Patterdale to the summit of Arnison Crag Route: From Patterdale church, walk along the main road (A592) to the Patterdale Hotel. Walk through the car park and behind the main building pass through a 'kissing gate' to join a clear path leading to Glenamara Park (formerly known as Glemara Park). Do not enter the park, but turn up the fell following a wall before striking up the fell to the summit rocks. Here there is a five view of Ullswater and the surrounding fells. Continue along the ridge before dropping down near Trough Head and retrace your steps to Glenamara Park gate. Walk through the park and join the minor road coming from Grisedale and walk downhill back to the road. Find a footpath which skirts a playing field to enter the churchyard and the starting point.

This is the most imposing view of Birks, which from here looks like a 'proper fell'!
