Home page Beattie on Low Fell

Stone Arthur

Starting point: Layby on the A591, north of the Swan Hotel (NY 338085)  Distance: 2.57 miles  Ascent: 1384'

A short climb to the summit of Stone Arthur, but the views more than repay the modest effort involved.

Route: Cross the busy A591 and walk up a quiet road and find a footpath heading uphill alongside Greenhead Gill.  At a gate turn left and walk steeply uphill before contouring the fell under the summit of Stone Arthur.  The path turns north to the rocky summit of Stone Arthur.  A small cairn marks the highest point of the fell.  Return by the same route.
