Arnison Crag

Starting point: Patterdale Church  (NY 393162)  Distance: 2.57 miles  Ascent: 1000'

A February walk from Patterdale church to the summit of Arnison Crag.  Snow still lingers on the highest tops as Lakeland is still in the grips of a snowy winter.

Route: From Patterdale church, walk along the main road (A592) to the Patterdale Hotel.  Walk through the car park and behind the main building pass through a 'kissing gate' to join a clear path leading to Glenamara Park (formerly known as Glemara Park).  Do not enter the park, but turn up the fell following a wall before striking up the fell to the summit rocks.  Here there is a five view of Ullswater and the surrounding fells.  Retrace your steps to the gate and enter Glenamara Park.  Walk through the park, crossing Hag Beck and join the minor road coming from Grisedale and walk downhill back to the road.  Find a footpath which skirts a playing field to enter the churchyard and the starting point.
