Date: Wednesday 16th April 2010
A late afternoon/early evening walk to Arthur's Pike and Bonscale Pike on the Far Eastern Fells. There are very fine views of Ullswater on this walk. There was a very thick haze over the Pennines today. Was this due to the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano? Route: Park by the road at the gate on to the open fell and follow tracks to The Cockpit, an ancient stone circle. Head WSW along grassy paths up to the summit of Arthur's Pike. Head S then SW to cross Swarthbeck Gill by a ruined sheepfold and walk up the fell to the summit of Bonscale Pike. After a visit to the two prominent cairns, retrace your steps back to the starting point.
