Angletarn Pikes

Starting point: St Patrick's Church  (NY 393162)  Distance: 3.92 miles  Ascent: 1423'  Date: Sunday 17th April 2011

On the right sort of day, this is a delightful walk with the reward of stunning views from the top of Angletarn Pikes.  It might be a low fell, but it is well-placed for views of patterdale and its side valleys of Grisedale and Deepdale.  And then there is that gem, Angle Tarn ...

Route: Starting from St Patrick's Church, walk towards Patterdale and turn left at the school across fields to Side Farm.  Walk through the farm and passing through a gate, take the upper fell side track to Boredale Hause.  This path zig-zags up the fell in its upper reaches.  On reaching Boredale Hause, cross a small beck and head SSW along a narrow defile until the path emerges to contour Stony Rigg.  As the north top of Angletarn Pikes comes into view, climb up on to it's rocky top.  Cross the marshy low ground between the two tops for a superb view of Angle tarn.  Find a path that leads back to the main track and retrace steps to the starting point.
