A walk up Bowscale Fell and Bannerdale
Crags with
members of The Wainwright Society.
Route: From The Mill Inn walk into
the valley of the River Glenderamackin and ascend to the ridge of
Bannerdale Crags using the old mine road. On reaching the
ridge, turn north and ascend Bowscale Fell. Descend to the
boggy col and then follow the edge of Bannerdale Crags to the summit
cairn. Retrace your steps, descend to the valley and return to
The Mill Inn.

Ahead is Bannerdale Crags
Alfred Wainwright asserts that this is the best approach route to
the fell, 'for only in this direction, eastwards, is revealed the
mile-long rim of cliffs that gives the fell a name and is its one
great scenic attraction.'
