Starting point: Lay-by St Margaret's
Church
(NY 190301) Distance: 2.9 miles Ascent: 850'
A perambulation of Sale Fell. An
easy stroll offering superb views of the Skiddaw range over
Bassenthwaite Lake.
Route: AW's route on to Sale
Fell starting at St Margaret's church rather than at Bass Lake
Station (now closed and demolished). Ascend Sale Fell and
follow the ridge to the subsidiary summit of Lothwaite with superb
views across the trench of Bassenthwaite.
Here turn W on a path that leads back to the starting point via a
delightful terrace walk. Pass through the churchyard and
descend to the road.

Ling Fell
AW described Ling Fell as being 'dome-shaped, like the top of a
Christmas pudding' Ling Fell p. 4

From the ridge there are views across Wythop
valley to Broom Fell ...

... and Lord's Seat

Beattie at the summit of Sale Fell!

From the summit the snow-covered Dodds can be seen
beyond Keswick

A contemplates the view whilst
Beattie is
more interested in having a back scratch!
