Black Fell

Starting point: The NT car park at Tarn Hows  (SD 326995)  Distance: 4.17 miles  Ascent: 989'

An ascent of Black Fell from Tarn Hows over the intervening height of Tom Heights.

Route: Park at Tarn Hows and walk down to the lake and ascend the fell to Tom Heights.  From here drop down to the Mountain Road and turn east along the road for nearly half a mile before turning north into the Iron Keld plantation.  When the track leaves the plantation and turns downhill, continue  north along a path leading gradually up to the summit of Black Fell.  Return via the same route, although a footpath may be taken direct to Tarn Hows instead of climbing over Tom Heights.
