Starting point: Seathwaite Farm,
Borrowdale
(NY 235122) Distance: 9.35 miles Ascent: 3350'
A rocky walk to the summit of
England's highest mountain.
Route: From Seathwaite Farm, follow
the well-defined route to Stockley Bridge and then ascend to Sty
Head Tarn. From here turn east for a short distance and pick up
the Corridor Route to Lingmell col before turning up to reach the
summit cairn of Scafell Pike. Return via Broad Crag col to
Calf Cove. Here ascend to the summit of Great End.
Retrace steps to Calf Cove and drop down to Esk Hause before passing
beneath the cliffs of Great End and descending via Grains Gill back
to the starting point.
These photographs show the ascent
route up to Scafell Pike and the summit of Great End. This
walk, done with
John
Burland of
The
Wainwright Society, coincided with Beattie's second birthday on
16th May 2008.

Wainwright describes it as 'the finest ravine in the district'
It's impressive!

Time for a rest!

The small group of walkers seen at the col were walking for charity
- 24 peaks in 24 hours!
We met them on the ascent to Scafell Pike after they had 'nipped up'
Lingmell!

We reach the summit of Scafell Pike
'This is it: the Mecca of all weary pilgrims in Lakeland;
the place of many ceremonies and celebrations, of bonfires and
birthday parties; the ultimate; the supreme;
the one objective above all others; the highest place in England;
the top of Scafell Pike'
Alfred Wainwright The Southern Fells Scafell Pike p. 23

We made it to the top!
